Bamboos : General

A Bamboo is defined as a woody perennials of the Gramineae (Bambuseae) family.

Each plant must be specified by giving its full BOTANICAL name. For full details of the specification terms used in naming plants see TREES.

In recent years there has been considerable work undertaken in the naming and classifying of bamboos. This has resulted in many name changes. Whilst it is correct to use the latest BOTANICAL name, in order to assist, the synonyms are usually listed also.
