Herbaceous Plants : Size of Container

Container Grown Plants

For herbaceous perennials pots are typically used for supply of large quantities of container grown plants. Pot grown plants are defined by 'P' followed by a number indicating the upper, outside width in cm, typically ranging from 5-13 cm. P9 is a typical small size, containing approx. 0.5 litres of growing medium.

Increasingly, herbaceous perennials are being supplied in larger containers although the number and the range of species reduces with the increase in size.

Container grown plants are defined by 'C' followed by a number indicating the volume in litres, e.g. C5.

Herbaceous plants are available in larger container sizes but these are not grown to a standard. The typical pot or container sizes are shown in bold type.

The size of the container usually depends on the vigour or the species/cvs.
